Natural Light: All air plants enjoy bright, indirect sunlight and do very well indoors. If you live in a moist or tropical environment, they can enjoy the outdoors as well in covered areas like porches or under trees (their natural growing place). They may be able to live outdoors during summer months in a non-tropical environment, but be sure to check on them and always bring them indoors when the weather gets colder.
Artificial Light: Air plants can do very well with full spectrum fluorescent artificial light. Ensure it gets exposure of 12 hours per day and is anywhere between 5-35" in distance from the light itself.
What water to use: You can use rain water, tap water that has settled (as long as it is not treated with softener), bottled water, or lake/pond water. Do not use distilled water or softened water because of the salt.
How to water: Spritz or spray your plants with water 1-2 times per week in dry areas during the summer, once per month or as needed during the cooler months. You can also submerge your plant in water for 1-2 hours if you are in a particularly dry region or prefer this method to spritzing.
Temperature: The perfect enjoyable temperature for most air plants is 50-90 degrees F.
